1.) Who is Calpurnia?
Calpurnia is the maternal figure. Cal cooks and cleans, acts like she is part of the family. Without her, the family.
2.) What is Walter Cunningham like? What does his behavior during lunch suggest about his home life?
Walter Cunningham is prideful and doesn't take handouts from people. At lunch, he goes to Scout and Jem's house for lunch. This suggests that they don't always have food or that they are in poverty or that he doesn't even have a house.
3.) How does Atticus treat Walter? What does this show about Atticus’ character? What does it show about Walter?
Atticus speaks to Walter with respect and formally as a person. They had a conversation about crops, and defended Walter when he poured syrup in his food. This shows that Atticus respects people and is tolerate about people. It shows that Walter does what he wants and doesn't care about what other people think of him.
4.) Contrast the difference in the way Jem and Scout treat Walter. What does this show about the difference between Jem and Scout at this point in the novel?
Jem defends Walter from Scout because he learned it from Atticus. Scout beats Walter up because she feels he got her in trouble. Jem is a lot more mature and tolerate than Scout.

I learned that "the Ewells had been the disgrace of Maycomb for three generations." (Page 40) Also, learned that "they lived like animals." (Page 40)
Chapter 4
1.) What does Scout think of current fashions in education? She does not like it. She feels like she is not learning. She learns everything at home from Atticus, Cal, and Jem.
2.) What characteristics of children are revealed through the Boo Radley game?
They are very observant. They mimic adults and play above their age range. They understand its offensive to mimic them, but they do it anyway.
3.) Why doesn’t Scout enjoy the games as much as the boys do?
She knows it's wrong. She's terrified of what could happen if someone finds out they're playing this game.
4.) What might be the cause of the laughter from inside the house?
It could have been because Boo is insane, Boo may be watching them, or Scout could be imagining it.

Mr. Nathan thinks the intruder is a black man and shot into the air to scare him off. Miss Stephanie assumes only black people steal things.

Dill says they are playing strip poker and the children are not supposed to be betting money. Jem lies for Dill because they are friends and says they were playing with matches.

Jem finds the pants folded over the fence and mended as if brand new.

He thinks Boo is trying to communicate him. Jem also understands that it's Boo and wants to send him a letter. Jem sits on the porch trying to set the pieces together. Nathan Radley clogs up the tree to make sure the kids don't get anymore gifts.

They received twine for fishing, the chewing gum is candy, and the soap is a sign that he knows that they know he is sending the gifts.
