This painting is of the Dust Bowl, in which was painted by artist by the name of Alexandre Hogue. Born in Memphis, Missouri 1898, Hogue grew to be a painter and a printmaker. Hogue began his formal art education at the College of Art and Design in Minneapolis. He went to New York and worked there for 4 years eventually coming back to Dallas, Texas. His artwork is mostly based on the Dust Bowl. He died in Tulsa, Oklahoma 1994.
This painting was taken in 1933, which is at the time of the actual Dust Bowl and Great Depression. This painting shows a farm in the distance, and a wired fence, breaking down surrounded by sand and dust. Most farms and houses were abandoned at the time of the Dust Bowl because of the dust, just as in this picture where it looks like the people have deserted the place. This tells me that the people gave up on the hope, and probably headed to California. I assume that they think that the rain will not come and nourish the wheat
