Micro-aggression is a small, everyday act of racism towards a person
What is a macroaggression?
Macro-aggression are generalized insults against a group of people based on sexuality, race, gender, etc.
Keep a journal of observable and experienced macro and microaggressions in society. These journal entries can come from family, friends, school, TV, billboards, etc. Keep in mind what defines a micro and a macroaggression and take notice of what is around you. You are welcome to include images, snapshots or clips from items you see.
MACROAGGRESSION:
Mr. Castro said, "know what I mean" in a stereotypical term for a sassy black people.
Someone said all Asians like rice.
"Atticus said Calpurnia had more education than most colored folks." p. 27
Students believe only the Hispanics can pass Spanish class
Someone said only Asians can use chopsticks.
MICROAGRESSION:
Mr. Castro said, "comprendè." referring the spanish community
The class calls one student of color Richard Sherman
Someone went to a person of color on Ash Wednesday as said, "I can't see the ashes."
Someone said that a white person looked like a person of color, in a jokingly manner
Someone squinted and said "look, I'm Asian"
